It’s My Divorce Anniversary!

Since it’s MY life, I’m free to celebrate whatever I want to celebrate – correct? So today I choose to celebrate my divorce anniversary! The day my divorce became FINAL and sent me off and running to make so many changes in my life.

I spent a lot of time today reflecting on how much my life has changed over the past couple of years. Divorce certainly is never easy, but mine was about as “easy” as things can get. My ex didn’t work for the last year and a half we were together, so I already knew I could handle all the bills with ease. Much easier with him out of the picture of course! Almost instantly, my name was changed and the condo was all mine. Then what?? Good question!

Not long after my divorce, my FICO score hit 850 and flat-lined there for a YEAR! Perfect credit is rare enough, but how in the world did I pull that off right after getting divorced? I have no idea.

Travel became a part of my life. You know – somewhere other than Indiana? Go figure! There really are interesting things to see out there in the world and I look forward to MORE adventures soon.

Being OUTSIDE has become the norm in my life! I spend so much time on my road bike and mountain bike. I rollerblade, kayak, ski, hike, go boating – you name it! I’m making new friends that love their outdoor time and I am quite content to join in.

Besides…

There is simply NO better way to view the Boston 4th of July fireworks than from right by the bridge, floating in a kayak!

On the home front: I have so many FUN things in my life now! My day geckos, mourning geckos, axolotls, chameleon, and shrimp join the cats, fish, and turtle that already lived here. Oh yeah – can’t forget the roaches! They aren’t pictured, but there are a lot of them. Mostly food for all the lizards.

Fun facts:

  • Day gecko #2 was FREE at Petsmart! They were giving it away because it had dropped its tail. The tail had grown back already, but was a different color. The gecko was declared defective and no longer able to be sold. I am happy to say this gecko has grown so much and the tail has turned a nice shade of green.
  • Mourning geckos are all female and breed by parthenogenesis! I have four of them and there are currently three eggs waiting to hatch. It’s a long process, but one I hope I have success with!

Getting divorced was not at all in my life plan – as I’m sure it’s not in anyone’s plan. Would I change things? Nah. I’m thankful for the years I was married, but I needed a change in my life – even if I didn’t know it at the time. I didn’t realize how much I had lost ME, lost who I was, and lost so many things that I loved. I also didn’t know there was so much out in the world that I was missing out on! I’m so thankful for the people that have shown me how to LIVE. I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
